How to Sync Gmail Contacts with My iPhone?

A guide to sync your Gmail contacts with your iPhone. Don't worry its easy.


Well, syncing your Gmail contacts is very easy. You can either sync directly by adding your Google account or exporting your contacts through a software.


Syncing Guide for iOS 5 and 6 Users:

Follow below steps to transfer your Gmail contacts on to your iPhone running iOS 5 or 6.

Step 1: Open 'Settings' in your iPhone.

Step 2: Look for 'Mail, Contacts, Calenders' option and tap on it to open.

Step 3: Choose 'Add Account' option.

Step 4: You will see different email accounts but choose 'Other' option.

Step 5: Now look for 'Add CardDAV Account' and tap on it to add few details.

Step 6: Fill out details in the field,

  • Server - Type, google.com in the server field.
  • User Name - Enter full Google account email address.
  • Password - Type your password in this field. If you enable Google's 2-Step verification, you have to generate and enter an application specific password.
  • Description - Enter description like 'My Gmail Contacts' or something.

Step 7: After entering information, Tap on 'Next' option and toggle 'ON' the 'Contacts' option.

That's it! Open your Contacts app on your iPhone to automatically sync your Gmail Contacts.

Syncing Guide for iOS 7 and Higher iOS Users:

If your are using iOS 7 or higher iOS, then follow below steps to transfer your Gmail Contacts on to your iPhone.

Step 1: Open 'Settings' option on your iPhone.

Step 2: Tap on 'Mail, Contacts, Calenders' option.

Step 3: Select 'Add Account' option.

Step 4: Different mail accounts will be displayed. Choose 'Google' option.

Step 5: Fill out the details as follows,

  • Name - Enter your name in this field.
  • User Name - Enter your Google Account email address in this field.
  • Password - Enter your Google account's password. If you have enabled Google's 2-Step verification, generate and enter an application specified password in this field.
  • Description - Enter the description like 'My Gmail Contacts' or something.

Step 6: Now that you have filled the information, tap on 'Next' option.

Step 7: In the next screen, make sure that the 'Contacts' option is turned 'ON'.

Step 8: Tap on 'Save' option.

That's it! you have successfully entered information to sync your Gmail Contacts. Open Contacts app on your iPhone to begin syncing automatically.

Syncing Guide for Google Apps for Business Users:

If you are using a 'Google Apps for Business' email then you have to use 'Google Sync' to transfer your Gmail contact list.

Basically Google Apps for Business accounts are the website specific address like admin@example.com.

This guide is for Google Apps for Work, Education, and Government users.

Step 1: Open 'Setting' app in your iPhone.

Step 2: Tap on 'Mail, Contacts, Calenders' option.

Step 3: Choose 'Add Account' option.

Step 4: Now tap on 'Microsoft Exchange' option, which is for Google Apps for Business users.

Step 5: Now in this screen, enter required information as below,

  • Email - Enter your 'Google Apps' email address.
  • Password - Enter your password.
  • Description - Enter the description if you want to.

After filling out the information, tap on 'Next'.

Step 6: Another screen will be shown and you have to enter few more details,

  • Server - Enter m.google.com in the server field.
  • Domain - Leave this domain field blank.
  • Username - Enter your full Google Apps email address.
  • Password - Enter your Google Apps account password. If you have enable Google's 2-Step Verification option, generate and enter application specific password. Visit HERE.

Now that you have entered required information, tap on 'Next' option.

Step 7: Choose the services you want to be synced with your device. Make sure the 'Contacts' option is 'ON' Green is the ON indication.

Step 8: Now tap on 'Save' option and you are done.

That's it! you have successfully added Google Apps account info to sync your Gmail Contacts with your iPhone. Open Contact apps on your iPhone to begin syncing.

Other Ways:

Another way is also available to transfer your Gmail Contacts to your iPhone. But this process requires a PC and the process is simple,

First you have to export your Gmail Contacts in VCard format on to your computer.

Next you have to install CopyTrans for Contacts software for PC, connect your iPhone and import the contacts which you have exported from Gmail account. That's it!

With this process of exporting and importing, you will have a backup file on your computer which can be edited.
